So You Have A Website

Great! Is it working for you? Maybe it looks great but is anyone seeing it? How many hits per day/month are you getting? Where does most of your traffic come from? What is your return on investment (ROI) for the money you paid to your web site designer?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the art of getting your website in the top pages of Google. For example, if someone is looking up real estate agents in your area, do you want to be on page 15 of Google? No, you want to be on the First Page of the results, beating out all of your competition! The same can be said for any industry.

SEO is important for anyone in business! Gone are the days when you can just put up a web site that looks just like your brochure.

Keywords Are Important

There are several free keyword tracking tools that you can find on the web that will help you determine what keywords are being searched frequently. You want to find keywords that have many searches, but few competitors. That way, you won't have as much work to do to get your web site ranked well in Google.

Once you have searched the keywords in your keyword tracking tool, try to find a domain name with the keyword (or keywords) in the domain name itself. Then use the keywords sparingly throughout the sales copy.

Some of the links over on the right hand side of this paragraph provide ways to improve your search engine ranking. Squidoo and Hubpages allow you to create your own website, much like Facebook and MySpace. Twitter has a unique twist on the concept in that it only allows updates of less than 100 characters, but links you to many other people.

Writing articles about your business and submitting them to places like ezinearticles.com is a great way to get people to visit your website. Write your articles in a way that addresses a problem or need, yet don't don't give them all of the information. Give them a reason to visit your website.
